Overview
If you're setting up serialization for a group of high-value items, you don't need to edit each material one by one. With Bulk Edit, you can select multiple materials and mark them all as serialized in a single action. Once they're serialized, you add the actual serial numbers in the stock location (Warehouse or Truck) where each unit is stored.
đĄ New to serialized materials? Check out Serialized Materials to learn the difference between regular and serialized materials and which items are good candidates for serialization.
Step 1: Mark Materials as Serialized in Bulk
Go to the Catalog.
Click Bulk Edit at the top right of the materials list.
Select the checkbox next to each material you want to serialize.
At the top of the list, click Mark as serialized.
In the confirmation window, click Confirm.
Close Bulk Edit Mode by clicking the X at the top left to return to the Catalog.
You'll see a confirmation message letting you know how many materials were marked as serialized (e.g., "4 materials marked as serialized").
đĄ Tip: Use the search bar and Filters inside Bulk Edit Mode to quickly narrow down the materials you want to select, for example, by name or category.
Step 2: Add Serial Numbers at a Stock Location
Once a material is serialized, add the serial numbers of the units you have in stock:
In the Catalog, find the material and click the arrow (â) at the end of its row to expand it.
Under Inventory by Location, click Edit on the location (Warehouse/Truck) where the material is stored.
In the Edit Material at Location window, go to Serial numbers.
Type the serial number and click + Add Serial Number. Repeat for each unit.
Click Save Changes.
You'll see a confirmation message that the material was updated successfully, and the serial numbers are now tied to that location.
â ď¸ Heads up: Serial numbers are added per location. If the same material is stocked in more than one Warehouse or Truck, repeat Part 2 for each location.
Why This Matters
Save time during setup: Serialize an entire product line in one step instead of editing each material individually.
Unit-level traceability from day one: Once serial numbers are in place, you can see exactly which unit is in which location and which job it goes to.
Ready for jobs: Serialized units with serial numbers can be assigned to jobs, and Ply won't let you assign the same serial number to two jobs at once.
