The Brother QL-830NWB printer is a WiFi and Bluetooth printer that integrates directly with Ply. This laser printer itās perfect for stationary locations to print off from a wide range of layouts and printer paper, including die-cut and continuous rolls.
This tutorial will cover the basics of setting up your QL printer and connecting it to Ply. While weāll be covering the QL-820NWB this tutorial will work for most QL series printers.
Step 1: Plugin and make sure your printer is turned on
After unboxing your QL series printer, plug in and turn on your printer.
Ensure that youāve installed the paper roll by lifting the top cover and placing the paper in facedown. Feed the paper into the slot and click the scissors icon āļøĀ to feed the paper and cut it.
Step #2: Navigate to the Bluetooth settings from the menu
Click on the menu icon on the printer face and navigate to the Bluetooth settings.
The Bluetooth settings on this device is option #6. Once found click āOkā.
Step #3: Find the On/Off setting for Bluetooth
Now that youāre in the Bluetooth settings navigate to Bluetooth (On/Off) to turn on Bluetooth for the device. Click āOkā to select.
Step #4: Turn on Bluetooth
Once in the Bluetooth settings, select āOnā from the list and click āOKā.
Open up your Bluetooth settings on your device and select the name of the printer. If you canāt find the printer, back out of settings and re-enter.
Step #5: Open the Ply application and navigate to an item
Navigate to Ply and select a material you would like to print. For iOS users, make sure that you hard press on the item cell to enable edit mode of the item.
Step #6: Click on the print icon in the upper right-hand corner of the item to configure printing
After clicking on the printer icon, you are now in the printer configuration for Ply where we will connect the printer and save the printer to the app. Navigate to āPrinterā next to āContentā
Step #7: Select printer settings to save it printer to the app
Once in printer settings, you will see a few options. Select the printer from the list under Bluetooth.
If you do not see the printer listed in either WiFi or Bluetooth, repeat step #4.
Step #7: Select āLabel Sizeā to select to label paper
Click on Label Size to select the paper you installed in your printer. If youāre unsure of the paper size, You can find it on the roll, either on the paper or on a sticker.
Note: there are several dozen paper sizes and types with the QL series. The paper size will need to match exactly in order for Ply to provide instructions on how to print to the device. If you receive an error when printing and it lists paper size as the cause try another version of that paper size.
Click Save after your selection.
Click Save to input your label size and printer selection.
Step #8: Navigate to content to select the label configuration
Once youāve selected your device and the label size, navigate to the āContentā section.
The best configuration for this printer is either Layout #1 or Layout #3 with portrait . Below is an example. Feel free to experiment with the different options and content.
Step #9: Click the print icon in the upper right to print the label
Once satisfied with your configuration, click the print icon šØļøĀ in the upper right and the printer will receive the data.
