📌 Controlling Automatic Material Sync to Jobs in Ply

By default, Ply can automatically add materials to jobs based on data coming from the integration. This behavior is controlled by a setting called “Receive materials from FSM Invoice.”

This article explains what this setting does, when you may want to turn it off, and how it affects your inventory workflow.

What does “Receive materials from FSM Invoice” do?

When enabled, any materials added or updated on the FSM invoice will:

  • Automatically appear on the corresponding Ply Job
  • Be deducted from inventory based on your location response logic

When disabled:

  • Ply will ignore all line items coming from FSM invoices
  • Materials will not be automatically added to Ply jobs
  • Inventory will not be adjusted automatically from FSM data

This gives you full manual control over what materials are moved, and from which location.

When should you turn this OFF?

Most teams turn this setting off when they want to:

  • Manually control which materials are added to jobs
  • Decide where inventory is pulled from (warehouse, truck, etc.)
  • Avoid automatic inventory movements they didn’t explicitly choose
  • Add materials directly in Ply instead of relying on FSM invoice data

If your team prefers to manage inventory movements manually inside Ply, disabling this setting is recommended.

What happens when the toggle is turned OFF?

When Receive materials from FSM Invoice is turned off:

  • Ply will not read material data from FSM jobs or invoices
  • All FSM line items will be skipped
  • No materials will be automatically transferred to jobs
  • Inventory will only move when you explicitly:
    • Add materials in Ply
    • Create transfers
    • Use pick lists or other manual workflows
    •

This ensures that nothing moves unless you initiate it in Ply.

What happens when the toggle is turned ON?

When the setting is enabled:

  • Materials added in FSM invoices will automatically sync into Ply
  • Ply will add those materials to the job
  • Inventory will be deducted according to your current location response setup

This can be useful for teams that want minimal manual steps, but it may reduce control in more complex inventory workflows.
