➡️ Why assign a technician?
Assigning someone to a job keeps the work tracked, and it also tells SureStock which truck to pull materials from when they're added to that job. Any user in your account can be assigned, not only technicians.
➡️ How to assign a technician to a job
Go to Jobs, on the web or in the SureStock app.
Open the job and click the three dots → Edit.
Find the Assign technicians field and select the user from the list.
Save your changes.
You can assign more than one technician to the same job, but keep reading before you do.
➡️ One technician per job (recommended)
When materials are added to a job, SureStock uses the assigned technician's Response Location (set under Settings → Company & Billing → Team) to decide which truck to take them from.
With one technician, that's simple: materials come from their truck.
With two or more, SureStock follows the sourcing strategy set up for your business, and the result may not be the truck you expected. If there's no clear match, materials fall back to the warehouse.
For the most accurate inventory, assign only one technician per job whenever possible.

Check their role under Settings → Company & Billing → Team before assigning them.
➡️ Using ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro?
ServiceTitan: SureStock matches technicians to their trucks using the Use Tech Trucks as Default Location setting, which links users by email address in both systems.
Housecall Pro: technicians assigned to a job in Housecall Pro are assigned in SureStock automatically.
In both cases, the technician's email needs to be exactly the same in both systems for the match to work.
➡️ Best practices
✅ Assign one technician per job whenever possible. It's the most reliable way to make sure materials come out of the right truck.
✅ Match emails exactly between SureStock and your field service software. A typo or a different domain silently breaks the match.
✅ Set a Response Location for every technician before they start pulling materials. Without one, materials fall back to the warehouse.
✅ On ServiceTitan, have Technician-role users add materials to jobs. SureStock maps technicians to ServiceTitan invoice lines by email, but only for users with a Technician role. If a Manager or Admin adds the materials, the invoice may need a technician assigned manually before it can post.
➡️ Common Issues
"Materials came out of the warehouse instead of the tech's truck."
Check that the job has only one technician, that the tech has a Response Location, and that they're assigned to that truck. The job's Activity tab shows exactly where each item was pulled from.
"A ServiceTitan invoice won't post because the tech isn't on the material lines."
A Manager or Admin probably added the materials. Have a Technician-role user with a matching email add or transfer them instead.
"The technician is on the job in ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro, but not in SureStock."
Compare the user's email in both systems. If they match and it's still not syncing, contact Support with the job number and the user.

Can I assign someone who isn't a Technician?
Yes, any user can be assigned. Just keep in mind that the role affects how SureStock matches users with ServiceTitan (see best practices).
If I change the technician, do materials already on the job change too?
No. Changing or removing the technician doesn't affect materials already added to the job.
Can I reassign several jobs at once?
Not yet. Jobs are reassigned one at a time.
Can a technician have a different role in each business unit?
Not currently. Each user has a single role.
Is there a read-only role to see jobs and material usage?
Not at the moment. Viewing job details and material usage currently requires a Manager role or higher.
