When to Use This
If you're setting up a brand-new truck or warehouse for the first time, see Creating a Stock Template & Applying It to New Locations instead. This article covers adding template materials to a location that already has stock on it.
How to Add Template Materials to a Location
Go to the Stock tab
Click the Templates tab
Open the template you want to use
Select the materials you want to add — you can select in bulk (Bulk Select works here)
Click Add to Location
Choose the destination stock location from the pop-up
Use the checkboxes to choose which data you want to apply (see below)
Choose how to handle conflicting position values in the dropdown
Click Add
Full Template vs. Partial Apply
| Select All - Full Template | Select Specific Items - Partial Apply |
How to use | Use the Bulk select option | Use individual checkboxes |
When to use | You want to stamp the entire template onto the location | The location already has most template items and you only need to add the missing ones |
Example | Setting up a truck that should carry the full standard kit | Adding a new seasonal product to existing trucks |
The Apply Checkboxes
Each checkbox is optional, check only what you want to apply:
Add missing materials from the template Materials in the template that don't exist yet at the location are added with template defaults (quantity, min/max, barcode). Materials that already exist at the location are skipped; their data is left untouched.
Update existing materials' location values Applies the template's Aisle, Bay, Level, and Bin position labels to matching materials. Controlled by the Merge/Override dropdown (below). Only useful if your template has position labels configured.
Update existing materials' barcodes Applies the template's barcode values to matching materials at the location. If a material already has a barcode at the location, it will be replaced.
Apply Min/Max values from template Sets the minimum and maximum stock thresholds for materials at the location based on the template. If min/max values already exist at the location, they will be overwritten with the template values.
Apply Quantities from template Adds the template's default quantity to the location for each material. This adds to existing quantities; it does not replace them (e.g., a truck with 3 filters + a template of 6 = 9 on the truck after applying). Use with caution on existing locations, only check this if you explicitly want to add more stock. On brand-new materials being added for the first time, this sets the starting quantity.
Merge vs. Override (Location Values Only)
For position values (aisle, bay, level, bin), you choose how to handle conflicts:
| Merge with Existing Values | Override Existing Values |
Template has a value, location doesn't | Template value is applied, fills the gap | Template value is applied |
Both have a value (conflict) | Location's existing value is kept, template value ignored | Template value replaces the existing location value |
Best for | Safest option, never overwrites data that already exists | Use when you want to fully standardize positions across locations using the template as the source of truth |
This Merge/Override setting only applies to location values (aisle/bay/level/bin). Barcodes, min/max, and quantities are governed entirely by their own checkboxes above.
⚠️ Override only applies to materials that exist in both the template and the location. If a material is at the location but not in the template, it's not touched. Also confirm the template actually has position values configured, if those fields are blank in the template, Override has nothing to push.
Common Use Cases
Use Case | What Happens |
Onboarding a new tech's truck | Apply your template and it's fully stocked in seconds, no manual item-by-item setup |
Adding missing items to an older truck | Check only "Add missing materials" (leave the other checkboxes unchecked) only the missing items get added, and everything already on the truck stays untouched |
Rolling out seasonal supplies | Add refrigerant and related items from a Seasonal Template to all trucks without affecting other materials already on them |
Syncing a truck to a new standard | You updated your template with new items, apply it to existing trucks so they're in line with your new standard |
Safe to run multiple times but check your boxes: Re-applying the same template to the same location is only fully non-destructive if you leave "Apply Min/Max values" and "Apply Quantities" unchecked. If those are checked, running the template again will overwrite min/max again and keep adding to quantities each time. If you just want to top up missing items without touching anything else, stick to "Add missing materials from the template" only.
