Overview
In Ply, each material location can include position labels Aisle, Bay, Level, and Bin (A/B/L/B) — to help organize warehouse layouts. These labels are optional and are meant for teams that need to track detailed storage positions.
If your team prefers simpler numeric labels, the Hide Location Prefixes setting lets you choose how location names are displayed: either with prefixes (e.g., A12) or just numbers (e.g., 12).
📌 These labels are completely optional. If your warehouse doesn't use a formal Aisle/Bay/Level/Bin system, you don't need them. Many smaller operations just use simple shelf numbers, that's exactly what the Hide Prefixes setting is designed for.
How It Works
Enabled: location names include their prefixes (e.g.,
A12)Disabled: prefixes are hidden, and only numeric labels are shown (e.g.,
12)
This setting only changes how labels appear, it doesn't affect your internal data, IDs, or warehouse structure.
How to Turn Prefixes On or Off
Go to Settings → Catalog → Stock
Find the toggle labeled Show location prefixes
Switch it OFF to hide A/B/L/B prefixes, or ON to show them again
Before & After: Display Comparison
The example codes below show three segments (Aisle-Bay-Level). If Bin is meant to display as a fourth segment, these examples may need a Bin value added worth confirming with the data team before publishing.
Material | 🔵 Prefixes ON | ✅ Prefixes OFF |
AC Filter 16x25x1 | A3-B2-L1 | 3-2-1 |
Capacitor 45/5 MFD | A3-B2-L2 | 3-2-2 |
Contactor 30A 24V | A4-B1-L1 | 4-1-1 |
Refrigerant R-410A | A4-B1-L3 | 4-1-3 |
📍 Affected Views
This setting applies across every area where location labels appear:
Where | What It Shows |
🖥️ Stock view (web) | Position labels on material rows in warehouse and truck stock lists |
📱 Mobile app | Location labels shown to techs when browsing or picking from stock |
🖨️ Printed barcode labels | Location references printed on material labels via the Ply label printer |
📋 Picklists & PDFs | Position labels shown on picklist documents sent to the warehouse team |
When to Use It
🔵 Keep Prefixes ON if... | ✅ Turn Prefixes OFF if... |
Your team uses a formal Aisle/Bay/Level/Bin system | You use simple shelf numbers (1, 2, 3) without formal labels |
Location labels are printed on shelf signs or bin stickers | Your team finds the prefix letters confusing or redundant |
Warehouse staff navigate using A/B/L/B coordinates | You want cleaner, shorter labels on printed barcodes and picklists |
— | You're standardizing location formats across multiple warehouses |
Notes
This change affects display only it doesn't modify historical records or linked workflows
You can toggle prefixes on or off anytime, depending on how your team prefers to view locations
💡 If the display doesn't seem to update right away, try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows / Cmd+Shift+Ron Mac). The setting takes effect immediately, but your browser may be showing a cached version of the page.
