How can we help? 👋

Using Multi Unit of Measurements. Example: 1 box = 12 units.

Using Multi Unit of Measurement (Multi UoM) in Ply: Receive in Boxes, Use/Sell as Units

When to use this

If you buy items in bulk (e.g., 1 box = 12 units) but you use/sell them one at a time, Multi UoM lets you:

  • Receive inventory in boxes
  • Move/consume inventory in units (EA)
  • Keep stock accurate automatically

Part 1: Set up the UoM so 1 Box = 12 Units

Key rule

Your material’s Primary Unit of Measure must be EA (each/unit).

Steps

  1. Go to Catalog
  1. Find the material
  1. Click the three dots (⋯)
  1. Select Alternate UoM
  1. Create/configure:
      • Box (or “Pack”, if that’s what you call it)
      • Conversion: 1 Box = 12 EA

Part 2: How to use/sell 1 unit at a time

What happens in Ply

The material will always move in EA (units) because that’s the primary UoM.

Practical examples

  • Transfers to a job: deduct 1 EA, 2 EA, etc.
  • Deductions/usage: always by EA

Part 3: How to create POs in Boxes and receive Boxes

After the UoM is configured:

Create a PO in Boxes

  1. Create a PO
  1. Add the material line item
  1. Set the ordered UoM to BOX
  1. Enter quantity:
      • 1 Box = 12 EA
      • 2 Boxes = 24 EA

Receive the PO

When you receive the PO, your on-hand stock will reflect in EA (units) automatically.

How to handle cost (recommended)

Track cost per unit.

Example:

  • If 1 box costs $94 and it has 12 units
  • Unit cost = 94 / 12 = $7.83 (rounded)

Set that unit cost in Cost to Business for that material.
