Common Error: Fix $0 Cost Syncing Issue in ServiceTitan

If material costs are syncing as $0 in ServiceTitan when integrating with Ply, this is usually caused by a ServiceTitan setting, not a Ply sync error. Enabling the Materials Charge feature in ServiceTitan resolves this.

Overview

By default, some ServiceTitan accounts don't charge customers for materials separately instead, material costs are bundled into a flat-rate service price. When this is the case, ServiceTitan may not sync material costs back to Ply as expected, causing costs to appear as $0.

Enabling the Enable Materials Charge setting tells ServiceTitan to track and sync the actual cost of each material line item, resolving the $0 sync issue.

⚠️ Before you enable this setting: ServiceTitan recommends checking with your ST Success Manager first, to confirm it won't interfere with your existing pricebook or invoicing workflows.

Steps to Enable the 'Materials Charge' Setting

  1. Log in to your ServiceTitan account.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Feature Configurations.

  3. In the search bar, type: Enable Materials Charge.

  4. Locate the Enable Materials Charge setting and toggle it ON.

  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

Why This Matters

Without this setting enabled, material costs may sync into Ply as $0, which can throw off:

  • Job costing and profitability reports

  • Margin Monitor calculations

  • Purchase order reconciliation accuracy

Enabling it ensures the actual material cost is passed through to Ply, keeping your cost data accurate across both platforms.
