Decimal quantities on Purchase Orders 🔢

Materials can now be purchased and received in decimal amounts, like 2.5 inches or 0.75 ft.

Previously, Ply only supported whole-number quantities when creating Purchase Orders (POs). With this update, you can now enter decimal values directly on any PO line item, making it easier to order and receive materials sold by length, weight, or fractional units.

Example: If you need to order 2.5 inches of copper tubing or 0.75 ft of wire, you can now enter those exact quantities on your PO without rounding up.

From your Ply dashboard, navigate to the Purchasing section and click New Purchase Order to create one.

2. Add a material to the PO

Search for the material you want to order and add it as a line item. Make sure the unit of measure on the material (e.g., inches, ft, lbs) matches what you're ordering from your supplier.

3. Enter a decimal quantity in the Qty field

In the Qty column, type any decimal value; for example 2.5, 0.75, or 10.25. Ply will accept and save it exactly as entered.

4. Review and submit the PO

Review the line items and totals; cost is automatically calculated as unit price × decimal quantity. When everything looks good, submit the PO to your supplier as usual.

5. Receive items with decimal quantities

When the order arrives, go to the Receive step on the PO. You can receive the full decimal quantity or enter a partial decimal amount; for example, receiving 1.25 of a 2.5-inch order.

✅ Double-check the unit of measure on the material before entering a decimal quantity.

Decimals only make sense if the unit matches what your supplier actually sells in, confirm inches, ft, lbs, etc. are set correctly on the material first.

✅ Use decimals for anything sold by length, weight, or volume; stick to whole numbers for discrete units. See the table above for quick examples of each.

✅ If you also use Landed Costs or Cost Layers, keep an eye on total-cost rounding after reconciling. See Common issues & fixes below if the total looks like it has more decimal places than expected.

"After reconciling a PO, the total cost is showing 4 decimal places instead of the usual 2 (e.g., $12.3456 instead of $12.35)."

This is expected in most cases now — unit prices in Ply can carry up to 5 decimal places (e.g., $0.01950/pc), which was shipped specifically to support accurate pricing on cheap, high-volume items like screws or consumables priced by the each. When that precision carries through into a total cost during reconciliation, you may see more than 2 decimals displayed. If you'd still like the option to round the displayed total to a standard 2 decimals regardless of the underlying unit price precision, there's an open feature request for that, you can add your vote here: Ability to control the number of decimals on PO prices.

💡 Tip: If you're pricing very low-cost, high-volume parts (like $0.0195 per screw), enter the unit price using up to 5 decimals for the most accurate per-unit cost, rounding to 2 decimals on cheap parts can meaningfully distort your totals at high quantities.

"I need to check out a partial amount of a Consumable (like 8 oz from a 1-gallon bottle), but it only lets me check out whole units."

Decimal quantities as described in this article apply to materials ordered and received through a purchase order. Consumables checkout (signing out stock directly to a tech, not through a PO) doesn't currently support fractional or decimal quantities, and Consumables don't support Alternate UoM the way Materials do. If your team refills smaller containers from a larger bulk unit, there's currently no way to reflect that partial usage accurately in stock. Does decimal quantity work for all material types?

Yes, decimal quantities are supported for any material on a PO, regardless of category or unit type. As long as the unit of measure is set correctly on the material in your catalog, you can enter decimals on any line item. (Note: this applies to Materials on a PO, see Common issues & fixes above for the current limitation on Consumables checkout.)

How many decimal places are supported?

This depends on what you're entering:

Will existing POs with whole-number quantities be affected?

No. Previously created POs with whole-number quantities won't be changed in any way. Decimal entry is simply now available as an option on any new or editable PO going forward.

Can I receive a partial decimal quantity if the full order hasn't arrived?

Yes. During the receiving step, you can enter a partial decimal amount, for example, receiving 1.25 out of a 2.5-inch order. The remaining open quantity will stay on the PO until fully received.

Does the decimal quantity sync with my FSM (ServiceTitan, HCP, Jobber)?

Decimal quantity follows the same sync rules as whole-number quantities for each integration. If your current setup syncs material quantities to your FSM, decimals will be included.
