Choose Exactly What to Apply When Updating Existing Stock Locations
Location templates are great for stocking new fleet locations, but they’re just as powerful when applied to existing ones. With selective apply options, you can now decide what to bring in from a template and what to leave untouched.
Whether you're pushing barcodes, quantities, or min/max levels, you stay in control of every detail.
How to use selective apply when adding a Template
Go to the Stock tab
Click the Templates tab
Select the template you want to apply
Choose the materials you’d like to add
You can also click Bulk Select after selecting one item to choose all materials in the template
Click Add to Location
In the popup window, select the stock location you want to apply the materials to
Use the checkboxes to choose which data you want to apply
Choose how to handle existing values in the dropdown at the bottom
Click Add
The selected materials will be added using your chosen apply options.
What Each Option Does
Each checkbox is optional; check only what you want to apply:
➡️ Add missing materials from the template
Materials in the template that don't exist yet at the location are added with template defaults (quantity, min/max, barcode)
Materials that already exist at the location are skipped; their data is left untouched
This is the safest option; it can only add, never overwrite
➡️ Update existing materials' location values
Applies the template's Aisle, Bay, Level, and Bin position labels to matching materials
Controlled by the Merge / Override dropdown; see the explanation below
Only useful if your template has position labels configured and you want to push them to existing locations
➡️ Update existing materials' barcodes
Applies the template's barcode values to matching materials at the location.
If a material already has a barcode at the location, it will be replaced with the template's barcode; use with care.
Useful for standardizing barcode labels across a fleet when you've updated your template barcodes
➡️ Apply Min/Max values from template
Sets the minimum and maximum stock thresholds for materials at the location based on the template
If min/max values already exist at the location, they will be overwritten with the template values
Great for pushing updated thresholds fleet-wide after you've revised your standard min/max settings in the template
➡️ Apply Quantities from template
Adds the template's default quantity to the location for each material.
This adds to existing quantities; it does not replace them. If a truck already has 3 filters and the template says 6, the truck will now show 9.
Use with caution on existing locations: only check this if you explicitly want to add more stock. On new materials being added for the first time, this applies the starting quantity.
Merge vs Override: How Existing Values Are Handled
For location values (aisle, bay, level, and bin), you’ll choose how to handle any conflicts:
Merge with existing values
Keeps current values and fills in only what’s missing
Override existing values
Replaces current values in the location with the ones from the template. Override only applies to materials that exist in both the template and the location. If a material is at the location but not in the template, it's not touched. Also confirm the template actually has position values (aisle, bay, level, bin) configured; if those fields are blank in the template, Override has nothing to push.
This setting only applies to location values. Other options applied are managed using the checkboxes above.
| Merge with Existing Values | Override Existing Values |
If template has a value, location doesn't | ✅ Template value is applied — fills in the gap | ✅ Template value is applied |
If both have a value (conflict) | ⏭️ Location's existing value is kept — template value is ignored | ✅ Template value replaces the existing location value |
Best for | ✅ Safest option — never overwrites data that already exists | ⚠️ Use this when you want to fully standardize positions across locations using the template as the source of truth |
Important Notes
Materials that already exist in the location will not be removed or replaced unless you choose to update them
Min/Max levels and quantities will only update if you select those options
Barcode updates are optional and apply only when selected
New materials will be added as expected
This allows you to confidently apply parts of a template without overwriting what’s already working.
Common Use Cases
Add only new materials from a template to an existing truck
Push updated barcodes or positions without changing inventory levels
Apply min/max changes across locations while keeping current quantities in place
